The attorneys for former President Donald Trump were told in a meeting with special counsel Jack Smith that Trump is a target of an investigation into the handling of classified documents, according to two sources briefed on the meeting who spoke with NBC News. Here's what that means. Also, a federal grand jury is meeting in Smith's investigation of Trump, sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News. The former president's handling of classified documents came under FBI investigation last year when the National Archives alerted the bureau that government documents he returned after having been out of office for about a year included 184 that were marked as classified. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and called the FBI, Department of Justice and others investigating him "fascists." Here's the latest. |

With tens of millions of Americans under air quality advisories across the Northeast, Midwest and parts of the South, there are a few steps you can take to protect yourself and minimize the health effects. High concentrations of smog are causing unhealthy air quality levels in states like Texas and Illinois, while smoke from wildfires in Canada has created a "very unhealthy" Air Quality Index rating in New York City and elsewhere in the Northeast. With the conditions expected to continue into today, what is the AQI, and how do you find out the rating for your area? What do experts say to do beyond just staying inside? Here's what to know, including the best air purifiers and masks, the people most at risk, and the potentially harmful effects of breathing in tainted air. |

We've heard of separate bedrooms and bathrooms for married couples, but separate apartments? That's a new one. Author Bianca Turetsky shares in an essay for TODAY.com how she and her husband, Peter, have flourished despite living a few subway stops apart in New York City even after they got married. "This is not what I expected marriage to look like. It's so much better," she writes. Bianca, who was 42 when they tied the knot, kept her apartment and her cat, while Peter, a widower who is severely allergic to cats, kept his own apartment. She writes how a "mundane weekday evening" still feels like a date that gives her butterflies. "I think this living arrangement is the secret to our happiness," Bianca writes. A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Singer Putri Ariani took the stage on NBC's "America's Got Talent" looking to change the world's perception of her. "My biggest challenge is people look at me as a blind person, not as a musician," she said. "But when I'm singing, I feel like a superstar." The 17-year-old from Indonesia sounded every bit the part of a superstar during her performance of an original song, even leaving famous curmudgeon Simon Cowell visibly emotional. Putri earned a standing ovation, a coveted Golden Buzzer, and a request to play a second song. See the video here. |
