Don't get too caught up in counting.
Welcome to the October walking challenge! This month, we've designed a workout plan that focuses on walking, strength training and stretching. Start TODAY is a community of over 115,000 members across the country who are all committed to getting healthy — together! We're so glad you're here. |
Someone posed this frequently-asked question on the Start TODAY group yesterday: "How many steps should I walk per day?" There are a few ways you can look at it. If you can log 10,000 steps a day, great — go for it! But for those who feel discouraged when they're unable to hit that magic number, a recent study may provide some welcome news. The research showed that elderly women who took about 4,400 steps a day had a lower risk of dying in the next several years than those who were the most sedentary. And walking intensity didn't make a difference: When two people took the same number of steps per day, but one stepped slower and the other faster, it didn't seem to matter. More evidence that what Al Roker says is true: "Something really is better than nothing!" Don't get hung up on your step count, just get out and move! |
