🇺🇦 Jill Biden crossed into war-torn Ukraine for a surprise Mother's Day visit with Ukrainian first lady.

The first lady met with her Ukrainian counterpart, Olena Zelenska, at a school in the western Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod. Zelenska, who had not been seen in public since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began, thanked Biden for her "courageous act" in making a visit that was highly unusual for a presidential spouse. "I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop, and this war has been brutal, and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine," Biden said.

"While ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is," the couple wrote on Instagram.
