It was a year full of the new (almond moms), the old (stumped by elementary school homework), and the stunning (a 70-year-old giving birth?!). TODAY Parents covered it all, with plenty of cute photos of celebrity babies along the way. These are the top parents stories of the year.
This year, we learned a parenting hack from TODAY's Dylan Dreyer, marveled at a 70-year-old woman giving birth, laughed at a dad's epic dances, and raised our eyebrows at a mom hugging (if that's what you call it) her son after his football game. Those were just some of the top parenting moments of 2023, which also included a reassuring message from YouTube parenting sensation Ms. Rachel. See them all here.
The "almond mom" phenomenon went nuts on social media this year thanks to a resurfaced "Real Housewives" clip involving Yolanda Hadid and her hungry daughter Gigi. A pediatrician and obesity expert defined an almond mom as a person who is unusually "stuck in diet culture," and the term prompted many women to share their own childhood experiences of growing up with one. TODAY Parents also examined the controversy around the "tradwife" movement, where women are embracing a lifestyle that mirrors the 1950s housewife ideal.
Part of being a parent is being able to laugh at those moments when things go awry, and there were plenty of them this year. One reader fave was a mom who misspelled her daughter's name on her birth certificate because she was loopy on a cocktail of medications, turning Gabrielle into Babrielle. Another light-hearted moment came when mom Nicole Jackson (above) shared her hilarious back-to-school rules for her teen son. What we are gonna do is enjoy the laughs.
This year's celebrity babies included some surprises (Paris Hilton's son, Phoenix, and daughter, London), a son of music royalty (Rihanna and ASAP Rocky's son, Riot Rose) and new additions to blended families (Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian's son, Rocky). We also got our share of distinct celebrity baby names (Honey, Holland, Ernest). See all the celebrity babies here, plus predictions for the top baby names of 2024, from Alora to Xiomara.
