A manhunt is underway for a gunman who opened fire last night at a bar and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, killing at least 15 people and injuring 50, police said. Photos released by law enforcement showed a man in a hooded sweatshirt holding a long black rifle in what appeared to be the entrance to the bowling alley. A "person of interest" identified as Robert R. Card, 40, of Bowdoin, was being sought, and schools and municipal buildings in the community of around 40,000 residents were closed today. Mayor Jason Levesque of neighboring Auburn spoke to TODAY this morning, calling the tragedy "a surreal experience." Here's the latest. |

A bulletin put out by the Maine Information and Analysis Center also said Card "recently reported mental health issues to include hearing voices" and "threats to shoot up" a National Guard base. Lewiston Police posted a photo of him on Facebook, and Maine State Police said he was "armed and dangerous." Read more. |
