A 13-day manhunt came to an end early yesterday when convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante was finally caught by police in a heavily wooded area west of Philadelphia. Using thermal heat technology, authorities were able to pinpoint the escaped killer's location, eventually ambushing him at around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Cavalcante tried to escape, crawling through thick underbrush while carrying a stolen .22 rifle, but authorities released a Border Patrol Tactical Unit dog, which caught and subdued him. The search for Cavalcante, who escaped from Chester County Prison on Aug. 31, involved the temporary closure of two school districts and a botanical garden, a harrowing encounter with a homeowner who shot at him, a stolen van and more than 500 law enforcement officers. Read more about how police eventually tracked him down. |

Sherri Rollins started experiencing back pain in 2017, and a scan showed a lesion on her liver. A gastroenterologist told the mom from North Carolina not to worry about it, but when she went to a different doctor, an MRI revealed she had stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to her liver. She was treated and went into remission for four years, but soon started losing weight and experiencing painful gas and other symptoms. She wrote in an essay for TODAY.com that her oncologist assured her the cancer had not returned, but her doctors informed her last year they found a lesion in a new area indicating she had cancer again. "I hope that even if one person makes their case for more treatment options and it saves them, then that is why I am speaking out," she wrote. Read more about her journey here. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Ice-T isn't the only one in his family who can work a stage. The 7-year-old daughter of the legendary rapper and "Law & Order: SVU" star bears a striking resemblance to her dad and has already strutted her stuff at New York Fashion Week. "It's cool," Ice-T told TODAY.com of the resemblance with his daughter Chanel. "I think she kind of gets irritated with people telling her she looks like her dad instead of her mom. I wouldn't want her to keep looking like her dad. She's finding herself." The actor also opened up how raising her with his wife, Coco, is different from when he was bringing up his two older children. "When I first had my first kid, I didn't know how I was going to even buy Pampers," he said. Read the interview here. |
