Three people who were killed by a gunman in a racially motivated shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday were remembered by residents and faith leaders at a vigil yesterday. "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired," a City Council member said. "They didn't deserve this." Angela Michelle Carr, 52; Anolt Joseph "AJ" Laguerre Jr., 19; and Jarrald De'Shaun Gallion, 29, were killed by Ryan Palmeter, 21, who then fatally shot himself, police said. The three victims were Black and Palmeter, was white. The Jacksonville sheriff called him a "maniac" who "hated Black people" and left messages of hate for the Black community. Here's the latest. |

Bob Barker's longtime companion, Nancy Burnet, recalled some of their fondest memories and their final days together after the legendary "The Price is Right" host died at 99 on Saturday. Burnet and Barker first met in 1983 and had a long-term relationship, but they never married. "I kept my relationship with him very low-key because people treat you differently when they know that there's a celebrity involved," she told TODAY.com. "At one time, we were very much a couple and then later (our) relationship evolved into more of a friendship." She said Barker even proposed to her in 2011, but she declined. "I just never wanted to remarry, to anyone," she said. "And so we just continued on as we were." Burnet also opened up about their mutual passion for animal activism and Barker's final days. Kelly Spill was eight months pregnant when she found blood in her stool, which her doctor told her was probably due to internal hemorrhoids that can occur during pregnancy. Her symptoms persisted for months, but doctors said it was because her bowel habits had changed since she had given birth. Finally, she had a colonoscopy and learned she had stage 3 colorectal cancer. "I felt very exhausted, and it made me second-guess what I was actually feeling because I was being brushed off," the mom from New Jersey told TODAY.com. "When you don't have someone listening to you, it's really, really hard to continue to keep going." Spill, 31, also spoke about other symptoms that were overlooked and detailed the immunotherapy treatment for her cancer. Read more here. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Simone Biles is back on top! Ten years after she won her first U.S. Gymnastics title, the 26-year-old dynamo won a record eighth all-around title last night at this year's U.S. Gymnastics Championships. She earned a standing ovation from the crowd in San Jose, California, after winning the floor exercise. Her breathtaking performance continued her return to the sport after two years off following the Tokyo Olympics, where she stunned the gymnastics world by withdrawing from multiple events. Biles is the oldest woman to win the U.S. Gymnastics all-around title since USA Gymnastics took over the competition in 1963. "It feels really special," Biles told NBC after her victory. "I've been doing it for so long, I feel like I don't think about numbers, I think about my performance." |
