Parents have expressed frustration and outrage with police after it was revealed that the attack on schoolchildren in Uvalde, Texas, lasted for an hour. A gunman killed 19 children and two teachers while barricaded in a classroom, and authorities have since given contradictory descriptions of their response to the attack. Police said at a news conference yesterday that the gunman was not stopped from walking into the school after crashing a truck and firing at people nearby, and officers pulled back and called for more help while he fired at them from a classroom. |

Days after he lost his high school sweetheart and wife of 24 years in a shooting that took the lives of 21 people, Joe Garcia died of a heart attack, his nephew told NBC News. Garcia had just returned from delivering flowers to the memorial for his wife, Irma Garcia, who was one of two teachers killed by a gunman at Robb Elementary School. The couple shared four children together. |

Thousands of high school and college students across the country staged walkouts yesterday to call for stricter gun laws. The protests were organized by Students Demand Action, which noted on its website that gun violence was the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in the U.S. in 2020. "I think there is something so devastating about 10-year-olds being killed, and students across the country are realizing this could have been any of us," a Vermont high school student told NBC News. |
