Take a moment to show a person with disabilities you care with this ‘magic word’

Many people are unsure what to say when they meet a person with disabilities for the first time. Often, they just don't say anything at all or avoid looking directly at the person.

But, all it takes to communicate that you want to be friendly and engage in conversation, according to some advocates for people with disabilities, is to make eye contact and say one simple word: hello.

"The most critical piece of advice I can give is to break through the awkwardness," said a dad whose son has cerebral palsy.
