When we do kind things for other people -- or sometimes when we just see or hear other people being kind -- we can get a flood of happiness hormones like oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins in our brains, according to psychologist and author Dale Atkins, who co-wrote "The Kindness Advantage." Seeing that other people feel good can make us feel more satisfied and move us to even more positive action. In turn, we can be good role models in our families. Research shows doing just one small act every day can start this change for you, your family and your community, Atkins said. |
